National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has called on aspiring candidates in Thyolo District to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaign during the official campaign period to run from July 14 2025 to September 14.

“Candidates should embrace issue-based campaign. They should also avoid provocations because these are recipes for violence,” he said.

Kaunda noted that communities are now informed and aware of their expectations

from leaders, urging politicians to avoid inflammatory languages during rallies.

He also said his office is planning to convene a meeting with aspiring candidates to discuss the code of conduct for the campaign period.

“People should attend all campaign rallies, including those of independent candidates, to hear their manifestos to make informed choices,” said Kaunda.

In his remarks, Senior Chief Ndalama commended Nice Trust for the continued efforts in promoting electoral awareness,

noting that such initiatives equip communities with the correct information to make informed decisions.

“As traditional leaders, we are ready to accommodate all political players and give them a platform to campaign. This will allow eligible voters to hear their manifestos and promote peaceful coexistence among the candidates,” he said.

A voter from the area Martha Mopiwa also hailed the awareness campaign, saying it rekindled her interest in the upcoming elections.

“This campaign reminded us about the elections and has reignited our desire to vote. We will continue to attend such activities to understand who the best candidates are,” she said.

Nice held the awareness campaign with funding from European Union under Boma Lathu project.
